UK Envoy meets Deir ez-Zor leaders to discuss political situation in NE Syria

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – UK Special Representative for Syria, Ann Snow, met local leaders and members of the civil administration in Deir ez-Zor countryside, eastern Syria, a source revealed to North Press on Thursday.

According to the source, who attended the meeting, Snow met on Aug. 8 with regional figures and representatives of the Deir ez-Zor Civil Administration, affiliated with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), to discuss the political situation in northeastern Syria.

He said the discussions focused on developments in Deir ez-Zor and the mechanism for implementing the March 10 agreement between Syrian Transitional President Ahmad al-Sharaa and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi.

The source noted that the meeting brought together members of the Deir ez-Zor Civil Council along with tribal leaders, who were assured they are “partners and allies of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and the people of Deir ez-Zor.”

Participants reportedly called for integration into the Syrian transitional government’s institutions in a way that safeguards rights and preserves existing structures — stressing that this should happen “freely, not by coercion,” and in a manner that protects the rights of all sides.

The source also revealed that, coinciding with Snow’s visit, a French delegation held separate talks with the civil administration, community leaders in Deir ez-Zor, assuring them that France would act as an impartial mediator in the negotiations.
