AANES welcomes UN Security Council statement on Syria

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) issued on Tuesday a statement welcoming the UN Security Council’s statement of August 10, describing it as consistent with the March 10 agreement.

“At a time when Syria is facing a pivotal and sensitive stage, the UN Security Council condemned the crimes and violations committed against civilians in Suwayda,” the statement read. It noted that the Council emphasized the need to protect all Syrians without discrimination and to guarantee the safe, unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid.

The AANES expressed solidarity with all Syrian regions affected by violations, reaffirming its readiness to support any international or UN initiative aimed at protecting civilians, ensuring fair accountability, and prosecuting perpetrators in accordance with international law.

The statement underscored that the Security Council’s reaffirmation of Resolution 2254 provides an indispensable framework for achieving a genuine political transition in Syria—one that ensures the participation of all effective actors on the ground.

It warned that any political process excluding forces representing the will of millions of Syrians would be incomplete, risk failure, and have serious consequences.

The AANES also stressed that the Security Council’s position aligns with the March 10 agreement between Damascus and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), as well as the outcomes of the “Unity of Communities” conference held on August 8 in Hasakah.

Reiterating its commitment to Resolution 2254, the AANES voiced readiness to take part in forming a comprehensive and credible transitional governing body; halting all military operations and threats from any side; drafting a new consensus-based constitution; establishing an inclusive transitional government; continuing the fight against terrorism; and ensuring the safe, guaranteed return of forcibly displaced people to their homes—culminating in free and fair elections under UN supervision.

The statement concluded by stressing the need for the United Nations to play a central and active role at this stage by sponsoring a comprehensive national dialogue. This process, it said, should bring together all Syrian parties without exception, paving the way for a democratic, pluralistic, and unified Syria that safeguards the rights of all citizens and fulfills their aspirations for freedom, peace, and justice.
