U.S. Congressman calls on Syrian government to protect all communities

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – U.S. Congressman Abraham Hamadeh urged on Sunday the Syrian transitional government to ensure peace and security for all Syrians, including Christians, Druze, Kurds, Alawites, and other minority communities.

In a statement, Hamadeh said he advised Syrian Transitional President, Ahmad al-Sharaa, that “In order to establish a unified Syria, the government must provide peace and security for all of its people, including the Christian, Druze, Kurdish, Alawite, and other minority communities.”

The remarks came during Hamadeh’s visit to Damascus, following a stop in Jerusalem. In the Syrian capital, he met with al-Sharaa and Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani.

Hamadeh highlighted his ongoing efforts “to bring Americans home, advance Peace Through Strength, and advocate for a Syria that looks towards the future and not the past.”

Discussions also covered the return of U.S. aid worker Kayla Mueller’s remains to her family in Arizona, the establishment of a secure humanitarian corridor to deliver medical and relief aid to Suwayda in southern Syria, and the importance of Syria normalizing relations with Israel and joining the Abraham Accords.
