IOM welcomes Syrian government’s approval to reestablish official presence
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced on Monday that it has received official approval from Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to reestablish its formal presence in the country and expand its humanitarian operations.
“We are grateful for this endorsement and welcome the opportunity to work closely with national counterparts to meet urgent needs and support long-term recovery,” said IOM Director General Amy Pope.
“This decision opens the door for IOM and our partners to scale up assistance to people and communities affected by conflict, displacement, and climate-related challenges,” she added.
While IOM has maintained a presence in Syria for several years through relief and development programs, its operations had been limited due to restrictions imposed during the ongoing crisis. This renewed official presence is expected to strengthen the organization’s ability to deliver more comprehensive and sustainable support across the country.
