U.S. envoy urges calm amid renewed clashes in Syria
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Thomas Barrack, U.S. Special Envoy for Syria, voiced on Monday deep concern over the renewed outbreaks of violence in the cities of Suwayda and Manbij, which erupted the previous day.
Barrack emphasized that diplomacy remains the most effective path toward ending violence and establishing a lasting peace in Syria.
“Diplomacy is the best way to stop violence and build a peaceful, lasting solution,” Barrack said via his official X.
He highlighted the United States’ pride in its mediation efforts to defuse tensions in Suwayda and in its joint initiatives with France to support the reintegration of northeastern Syria into a unified national framework.
“🇺🇸 is proud to have helped mediate a solution in Suwayda and to be co-mediating with 🇫🇷 the reintegration of the northeast into a unified Syria,” he added.
” The path ahead belongs to Syrians,” Barak stated, urging all parties to exercise restraint and resolve their disputes through dialogue rather than armed confrontation.
On Sunday, clashes broke out in Suwayda amid mutual accusations between Druze factions and government forces over violations of a ceasefire agreement. Meanwhile, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said they responded to government shelling targeting their positions in the countryside of Manbij.
