SDC warns of national collapse, urges inclusive political dialogue
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) warned on Tuesday that Syria is at risk of sliding into deeper crises and an internal explosion with sectarian or regional dimensions, amid continued political deadlock and the absence of a unified national state.
In a statement, the SDC emphasized that the events currently unfolding in Suwayda in southern Syria are not isolated, but rather a direct reflection of the broader collapse of the country’s political and institutional structures.
These developments reflect “the fragility of the current situation. They highlight the urgent need for sustainable political solutions. These solutions must address the root causes of the conflict and prevent similar incidents of violence in other parts of the country,” the statement read.
The Council condemned all forms of violence, armed clashes, and the prevailing security chaos, which threaten civil peace in Suwayda and across the country. It called for an immediate end to all hostilities.
The SDC urged the urgent initiation of a comprehensive national dialogue that would culminate in an inclusive national conference involving all democratic and national forces. The goal of such a dialogue, it stated, should be the development of a new Syrian political framework grounded in the principles of transitional justice.
It warned of the grave dangers posed by internal conflicts—whether sectarian, regional, or civil—which threaten the very existence of the Syrian state and its diverse society, with devastating consequences for future coexistence and community peace.
The Council called for an end to all forms of hate speech, political incitement, and media provocation, stressing their dangerous role in inflaming tensions, deepening divisions, and threatening societal cohesion.
It also placed responsibility on all political and military actors—local, regional, and international—for the current situation, urging them to uphold their legal, political, and moral obligations. It called on all parties to respect international law and refrain from any actions or interventions that may fuel the conflict or serve narrow interests.
The SDC reiterated that any political solution in Syria must be genuinely Syrian and inclusive, based on dialogue, consensus, and mutual recognition—not on violence, exclusion, or reliance on foreign powers.
Finally, the Council called on all national forces to assume their responsibilities in rebuilding trust and civil peace, to heed the voice of reason, reject incitement and division, and work collectively toward a comprehensive national democratic project that can lead Syria out of war and collapse.
