Druze leadership in Suwayda outlines agreement’s deal with government
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – The Druze Spiritual Leadership in Suwayda announced on Saturday a series of measures to implement a recent agreement with the Syrian transitional government, reached under international sponsorship, aimed at halting violence and restoring stability in the region.
According to a statement posted on its official Facebook, the leadership confirmed the deployment of the government’s General Security checkpoints outside Suwayda’s administrative boundaries to contain the conflict and prevent armed groups from infiltrating the province.
The statement further stipulated a 48-hour ban on entry into border villages, starting from the time the agreement was reached. This measure is intended to allow the safe deployment of security forces from the opposing side and to avoid any surprise attacks.
The leadership clarified that remaining members of local tribes inside Suwayda would be granted safe and protected passage out of the governorate. Their exit will be secured by local factions operating on the ground, with guarantees of no harassment or harm from any party.
It also urged all local groups to refrain from moving beyond Suwayda’s administrative borders and to avoid any provocative or combat-related actions.
The spiritual leadership held any party acting outside the framework of the agreement solely responsible for the collapse of the current understandings.
Concluding the statement, the leadership made an emotional appeal: “We call on our youth—the defenders of our land and honor—to act with the highest level of coordination and responsibility to bring an end to this ordeal that has afflicted our peaceful people.”
