Tribes in Syria announce immediate ceasefire in Suwayda

SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – The Southern Tribes Gathering in Syria announced on Saturday an immediate and comprehensive halt to all military operations in Suwayda Governorate, southern Syria, following a week of intense clashes that left hundreds dead or wounded.

In a statement in Arabic published on its official Facebook page, the Southern Tribes Gathering declare an immediate and total cessation of all military actions.

Earlier in the day, the Syrian Presidency declared a nationwide ceasefire, bringing a halt to the deadly infighting that had gripped Suwayda since last week.

The group called for the “immediate release of all detainees from the tribes, without delay,” describing it as a crucial step toward rebuilding trust. It also urged authorities to “guarantee the safe return of all displaced persons to their homes and villages, without exception or conditions.”

The statement stressed the importance of opening channels for dialogue and coordination to prevent future violence and to promote lasting peace and stability.
