Syria deploys security forces in Suwayda following ceasefire agreement
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Interior Ministry announced on Saturday the beginning of the deployment of security forces across Suwayda Governorate in southern Syria, following a ceasefire agreement reached between Syrian Transitional President, Ahmad al-Sharaa, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Speaking on behalf of the ministry, spokesperson Nour al-Din al-Baba stated, “The state, through its political and security institutions, is moving forward with efforts to restore security and stability in Suwayda.”
Earlier in the day, U.S. Special Envoy to Syria, Thomas Barrack, confirmed that both parties had reached a ceasefire agreement aimed at ending the recent wave of violence in the region.
He added, “In response to the bloody events caused by outlaw groups, and under direct orders from the Presidential Office, internal security forces have begun deployment in Suwayda as part of a national mission primarily focused on protecting civilians and halting the chaos.”
Al-Baba emphasized that the security forces are committed to stopping attacks, ending hostilities, and restoring calm throughout the governorate.
Meanwhile, the Spiritual Leadership of the Druze Community in Suwayda reiterated its call for an end to the violence and urged all parties to heed the voice of reason.
In a statement the religious authority said, “We extend our hand to every honorable party willing to bring an end to the current clashes, uphold the ceasefire, and listen to the voice of reason, wisdom, and humanity, rather than to weapons and chaos.”
