Syrian presidency declares ceasefire following deadly clashes in Suwayda
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Presidency announced on Saturday a nationwide ceasefire following a week of deadly clashes in the city of Suwayda that left hundreds dead and wounded.
In a statement published on its official website, the Presidency urged all parties to allow state institutions and security forces to implement the ceasefire responsibly and to help restore stability and end the bloodshed.
“The Presidency of the Republic calls on everyone to give space for the Syrian state, its institutions, and its forces to apply this ceasefire responsibly, in a way that ensures stability and halts the shedding of blood,” the statement read.
The statement called on all sides—without exception—to fully adhere to the decision, cease all military operations immediately across all regions, protect civilians, and ensure the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid.
The Presidency also issued a stern warning, stating that: “Any violation of this decision will be considered a clear breach of national sovereignty and will be met with the necessary legal measures in accordance with the constitution and existing laws.”
Local media outlets reported that security forces have begun deploying across several areas to enforce the ceasefire, maintain public order, and protect civilians and their property—measures aimed at reinforcing calm and stability on the ground.
