U.S. Envoy to Syria announces ceasefire agreement between Syria, Israel
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – U.S. Special Envoy to Syria, Thomas Barrack, announced early Saturday morning that a ceasefire agreement has been reached between Syrian Transitional President Ahmad al-Sharaa and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Barak stated that with the support of the U.S., Netanyahu and al-Sharaa “have agreed to a ceasefire embraced by Türkiye, Jordan and its neighbors.”
Despite the announcement, clashes were still ongoing at the time of reporting in the countryside of Suwayda and on the city’s outskirts. Fighting continues between Druze armed groups and Bedouin tribal militants.
The U.S. envoy called on Druze, Bedouin, and Sunni communities to lay down their arms and work together with other minorities to build a new, unified Syrian identity.
“We call upon Druze, Bedouins, and Sunnis to put down their weapons and together with other minorities build a new and united Syrian identity in peace and prosperity with its neighbors.”
