Israeli airstrikes target Syrian military base in Syria’s Latakia
LATAKIA, Syria (North Press) – Israeli warplanes launched early on Thursday airstrikes targeting a military site in the countryside of Latakia on the Syrian coast.
The strikes targeted Brigade 107, also known as “Zama,” in the Jabalah countryside south of Latakia. This came amid heightened military escalation in the southern governorate of Suwayda.
As of the time of reporting, Syrian government agencies have not issued any statements regarding the most recent Israeli airstrikes.
Earlier on Wednesday, Israeli forces conducted a series of aerial attacks on multiple targets in Damascus, Suwayda, and Daraa. These strikes come as southern Syria continues to witness intense clashes between Druze armed groups and forces of the Syrian transitional government, which have left hundreds killed or wounded.
Meanwhile, sources from the Syrian Ministry of Defense confirmed on Wednesday the beginning of the withdrawal of Syrian forces from Suwayda. The move follows an agreement reached between the Syrian government and Druze religious leaders in the city, after the Syrian forces reportedly concluded its mission to pursue what it described as “outlaw groups.”
