Hospitals in Syria’s Suwayda call for support amid escalating violence
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – The National Hospital in Suwayda, southern Syria, issued on Tuesday an urgent appeal, calling on all medical personnel to report immediately due to overwhelming pressure from a surge in casualties caused by ongoing shelling across the city.
The appeal comes as Suwayda continues to experience intense bombardment and escalating clashes, prompting a wave of displacement among residents.
The influx of injured individuals stretched the hospital’s capacity, raising concerns about its ability to respond to the growing medical needs.
Earlier in the day, several shells struck various neighborhoods in central Suwayda. The extent of the damage and the number of casualties remain unclear due to the ongoing security situation.
North Press correspondent said that the city witnessed a wave of displacement beginning early Tuesday morning, as falling shells triggered panic among civilians. Gunfire and explosions have been heard continuously throughout the day, adding to the sense of fear and uncertainty.
In response to the deteriorating situation, Suwayda’s Internal Security Forces announced the imposition of a curfew earlier on Tuesday. The curfew took effect at 8:00 a.m. and will remain in place until further notice. Security forces are reportedly preparing to enter the city following deadly clashes that began on Sunday.
