Syrian authorities announce curfew in Suwayda amid ongoing clashes
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Syrian security forces imposed on Tuesday a curfew across the city of Suwayda, southern Syria.
The announcement comes amid preparations for the entry of government forces following days of deadly clashes that began on Sunday.
Ahmed al-Dalati, commander of the security forces in Suwayda, stated via the Ministry of Interior’s official social media channels that joint forces from the Ministries of Interior and Defense will begin entering the city center “to protect civilians and restore order.”
Al-Dalati emphasized the need for cooperation, saying, “We place national and humanitarian responsibility on the religious leadership and the heads of armed factions, and we urge them to cooperate fully with our forces to secure the city and ensure lasting stability in the governorate.”
The statement also urged residents to remain indoors and warned against allowing “outlawed groups” to use residential buildings as shelters.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Ministry of Defense’s confirmed that their forces continue operations to pursue “outlaw groups” in the outskirts of Suwayda.
According to local media reports, forces of the transitional government have taken control of several strategic towns, including al-Mazraa, al-Dur, Knaker, and the village of Ylgha. Units from both ministries are now reportedly positioned at the entrances of Suwayda city, signaling an imminent security operation in the urban center.
