Syrian politician criticizes constitutional declaration
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – A Syrian politician criticized on Sunday the newly announced constitutional declaration by #Syria’s Transitional President, Ahmad al-Sharaa, calling it “disappointing” and “unfit for Syria’s transition.”
“The declaration falls short of the hopes of Syrians and does not honor the sacrifices made by the victims and martyrs of the revolution,” said Ziad Watfa, politician and member of the Political Bureau of the Democratic Change Movement.
In an exclusive statement to North Press, Watfa added that Syrian people sought justice through their struggle for freedom and dignity, envisioning Syria as a “civil, pluralistic, and democratic state.”
He argued that the declaration is “unsuitable for managing Syria’s transitional phase,” citing issues with its timeframe, representation, and institutional framework.
Watfa also criticized “Turkey’s longstanding role in the Syrian crisis,” asserting that Ankara’s actions have consistently “undermined the Syrian people’s aspirations.”
“Turkey has occupied Syrian territories and persistently worked against any viable political solution,” he stated. “It continues to exploit the situation in Syria, posing a serious threat to the country’s future.”
The politician reiterated his movement’s firm opposition to “any Turkish interference in Syria’s affairs,” whether in economic matters, governance, or decision-making.
He emphasized the need for Syrians to determine their own political and economic future, free from external influence.
