DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The U.S. Embassy in Syria extended its warmest wishes to Syrian Kurds and all those celebrating Nowruz, expressing hopes for a year filled with peace, prosperity, and renewal.
In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the embassy wrote, “On the occasion of Newroz, we send our warmest wishes to Syrian Kurds & all who celebrate this holiday. May the new year be filled with the light of hope & the promise of spring. May it be a year of peace, prosperity & health. Happy Newroz! Newroz pîroz be!”
Symbolic Diplomatic Gesture
The message, published in English, Arabic, and Kurdish, underscores Washington’s continued engagement with the Kurdish community in Syria. Nowruz, marking the arrival of spring and the Kurdish New Year, carries cultural and political significance for Kurds in Syria and beyond.
The U.S. has maintained a working relationship with the Kurdish-led Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), supporting their efforts in the fight against ISIS and regional stability. While the statement is primarily symbolic, it reinforces U.S. acknowledgment of the Kurdish role in shaping Syria’s future.
Nowruz Celebrations Amid Regional Uncertainty
Nowruz festivities across northeast Syria come at a time of ongoing security and political challenges. The SDF and AANES continue to navigate tensions with regional actors while advocating for international recognition and stability.
Against this backdrop, the U.S. greeting is likely to be welcomed by Kurdish communities, reaffirming diplomatic ties and support for a peaceful and inclusive Syria. As celebrations unfold, the message from Washington serves as a reminder of the broader international attention on the region’s future.
