Syrian Defense Ministry thwarts attack on Naval Command in Latakia
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Ministry of Defense, under the caretaker government, announced on Saturday that it had successfully repelled an attack by “remnants of the former regime” on the Naval Command headquarters in the coastal city of Latakia.
According to the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), a source within the Ministry of Defense confirmed that security forces “successfully thwarted an assault by remnants of the defunct regime on the Naval Command in Latakia.”
The source further stated that “stability has been restored to the area.”
Earlier, a security official in Latakia told SANA that “remnants of the former regime targeted the National Hospital in Latakia, prompting security forces to respond.”
Colonel Hassan Abdel Ghani, spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, stated that the armed forces had “achieved rapid field progress and reestablished control over areas that witnessed treacherous attacks against public security forces,” as reported by SANA.
Abdel Ghani added, “We have carried out precise containment operations, effectively tightening the noose around the remaining officers and elements of the defunct regime.”
