SDF thwarts ISIS infiltration attempt in Deir ez-Zor
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Media Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Friday that several ISIS militants were wounded while attempting to infiltrate from the western bank of the Euphrates into the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
In an official statement on its website, the Media Center reported that the SDF forces, with air support from the U.S.-led Global Coalition, engaged ISIS “terrorist cells” attempting to cross from the western bank into the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, inflicting casualties among the militants.
The incident comes amid ongoing joint military exercises between the Global Coalition and the SDF in the area.
On Thursday, a source close to the SDF told North Press that Coalition and SDF forces had been conducting live-fire military drills since the morning around their base at the al-Omar oil field in the east of Deir ez-Zor.
The source added that the exercises have been ongoing for three consecutive days at the site.
Similarly, on March 5, the Coalition and the SDF carried out military drills at the Conoco gas field in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
