Two former Iran-Backed Fighters Found Dead in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Residents of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, found on Thursday the bodies of two former members of Iranian-backed militias in separate locations, both killed under mysterious circumstances.

A local source from the town of Ayash, on the outskirts of Deir ez-Zor, reported that residents found the body of Osama al-Amir, a former militant with the Afghan Fatemiyoun Brigade.

Al-Amir’s body was discovered near an abandoned house close to the town’s landfill, with a gunshot wound to the head.

Al-Amir had been missing for over 20 days. However, according to local sources, his murder appeared to have occurred only a few hours before his body was found.

In the town of al-Husseiniyah, also in the outskirts of Deir ez-Zor, the residents found the body of Sobhi al-Nasser, who had also been shot in the head. His corpse was dumped in the Euphrates River near the old bridge.

Al-Nasser had been kidnapped days earlier by unknown assailants, who had contacted his family demanding a ransom for his release. Despite the ransom demand, he was ultimately killed.

The source confirmed that al-Nasser was previously affiliated with security militias linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Deir ez-Zor.
