Residents in Syria’s Suwayda burn Israel’s flag raised by unknown men
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Residents of the city of Suwayda, southern Syria, set fire early Tuesday morning to the Israeli flag after it was raised by unidentified individuals at the city’s entrance.
The flag was hoisted at al-Ankoud roundabout, the main entrance to Suwayda from Damascus, amid circulating calls and statements suggesting Israeli intervention to protect the Druze community.
Videos shared on social media captured young men pulling down the flag and setting it ablaze.
The incident highlights the widespread rejection among southern Syria’s residents of any Israeli intervention, following remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his foreign minister about potential involvement to protect the Druze population.
