UN expresses deep concern over Israeli violations in Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The United Nations voiced on Wednesday serious concerns over Israel’s ongoing violations of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“We’re obviously very concerned about the continuing violation by Israel of Syria’s sovereignty and its territorial integrity,” U.N. spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said during a briefing. “Of course, and the violations of the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement.”

Dujarric emphasized the need for all parties to adhere to international law and warned that Israeli strikes on Syria could escalate hostilities, fuel violence, and further destabilize the region.

“Hostilities in different parts of the country are impacting civilians and humanitarian access to people in need,” he added.

He reaffirmed the U.N.’s commitment to Syria’s sovereignty and territorial unity, stressing that these concerns have been conveyed by U.N. Special Envoy Geir Pedersen and other officials.

“We stand for the security of the Syrian people.  We stand for the territorial integrity and the sovereignty of Syria,” Stéphane Dujarric noted.
