Dialogue forum in Tartus discusses women’s role in Syria’s future
TARTUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Women’s Council, a women’s organization active in northern Syria and other regions, held on Monday a dialogue session in Tartus on the Syrian coast to discuss constitutional drafting and the role of women in building a new Syria.
Approximately 80 Syrian women, including feminist and human rights activists as well as representatives of associations and organizations, participated in the event.
Rihab Ibrahim, a coordinator from the Syrian Women’s Council, highlighted the sensitive political climate following the fall of the Assad regime and stressed the importance of women maintaining their presence and playing an active role in shaping the country’s future.
Meanwhile, Reem Othman, an official from the Children of Love Association, provided an overview of women’s legal status in Syrian constitutions from 1950 to 2012.
Suhad Ali from the Sendyan Association discussed the challenges facing women’s participation in Syria’s future and potential solutions.
The Syrian Women’s Council concluded the session with a work plan and an initiative to organize similar dialogue sessions in other Syrian provinces.
