SDF dismantles ISIS cell in Syria’s Hasakah

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Monday the dismantling of an Islamic State (ISIS) cell in the countryside of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.

According to an SDF statement, their commando forces conducted a raid on Sunday in the town of Markadah in the southern countryside of Hasakah aiming to dismantle an active ISIS cell.

Last week, in coordination with the U.S.-led Global Coalition, the SDF launched a security operation targeting ISIS cells in the southern countryside of Hasakah.

During the operation, ISIS militants opened fire as they were being surrounded, sparking clashes. One ISIS militant was killed, while another detonated his explosive belt, killing himself instantly.

Additionally, five ISIS operatives were arrested, and a cache of weapons, ammunition, and military equipment was seized, the statement added.

“The terrorist cell was responsible for attacks targeting oil tankers and internal security checkpoints in several areas across northern and eastern Syria,” the statement added.

“Following extensive surveillance and with the support of the international coalition, our forces located the cell’s hideout which was in in the town of Markada, where they were planning large-scale terrorist operations, including an attack on Panorama Prison in Hasakah, which houses ISIS militants.”
