Difficult for Trump to remain passive observer on post-Assad Syria – NYT
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The New York Times said on Wednesday that it will be challenging for President-elect Donald Trump to remain a passive observer as the future of post-Assad Syria begins to take shape.
The newspaper cited American officials, emphasizing that it will be difficult for President-elect Trump to stay on the sidelines as Syria’s post-Assad landscape emerges.
It highlighted that Trump will need to address the continued deployment of approximately 900 American soldiers in eastern Syria as part of his administration’s foreign policy considerations.
On Tuesday, U.S. National Security Council Spokesman John Kirby, stated that ensuring stability in Syria aligns with the national security interests of the United States.
Earlier today, the White House announced that National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan would discuss the Syrian situation during his upcoming visit to the region, signaling ongoing U.S. engagement in shaping Syria’s future.
