Casualties in Russian Airstrike on Idlib in northern Syria
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – One person was killed and four others injured on Wednesday in a Russian airstrike on Ma’arrat al-Nu’man, southern Idlib. The raid comes amidst ongoing clashes between Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) and Syrian government forces in the northern, eastern, and western countryside of Hama, central Syria.
Details of the Attack
Local sources confirmed that Russian warplanes carried out at least seven airstrikes targeting Idlib and its southern countryside today. The attacks also extended to the Ghab Plain region in western Hama, with continuous aerial activity reported by a joint Syrian-Russian military campaign.
A North Press correspondent reported that today’s raids resulted in:
Ma’arrat al-Nu’man: 1 dead, 4 injured.
General toll in Idlib and southern countryside: 3 killed, 8 injured.
HTS Advances in Hama
Earlier today, HTS announced its capture of two Alawite-majority towns in Hama, as part of its broader offensive against Syrian government forces. These developments were confirmed by its affiliated “Operations to Repel Aggression” administration.
Escalation and Humanitarian Concerns
The escalation underscores the dire humanitarian and security conditions in northwestern Syria. Observers fear further civilian casualties and displacement, as both Russian and Syrian forces continue targeting HTS strongholds amidst intensified ground offensives.
Local activists warn of worsening humanitarian crises as airstrikes and clashes push more civilians to flee, with limited international aid reaching the area. The renewed fighting marks a significant uptick in violence, with no immediate prospects for de-escalation.
