AANES issues appeal to help IDPs from northern Aleppo

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) issued on Wednesday an urgent humanitarian appeal to address the escalating crisis of displaced persons arriving from the northern countryside of Aleppo, northwestern Syria.

Sheikhmous Ahmad, co-chair of the Office of IDPs and Refugees Affairs of the AANES, said that more than 30,000 families are in desperate need of United Nations assistance due to the dire conditions they face. He highlighted the limited capacity of local organizations and the AANES to provide adequate support.

The influx of displaced persons comes in the wake of the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA)and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, once known as the al-Nusra Front), gaining control over the town of Tel Rifaat in northern Aleppo.

Tens of thousands of people have fled to areas run by the AANES, exacerbating an already critical humanitarian situation.

The AANES issued a call for urgent humanitarian intervention. They stressed the immediate necessity to address the growing needs of the displaced, especially amid worsening conditions caused by ongoing displacement and deepening humanitarian crises.

Ahmed highlighted the insufficient support from relief organizations, which are struggling to respond to the scale of the crisis.

He noted that the AANES’ resources are severely strained and inadequate to manage the overwhelming needs of the displaced population.

Ahmed urged the United Nations to take swift action to provide aid, emphasizing the importance of delivering assistance through the al-Ya’rubiyah (Tel Kocher) crossing, which is deemed a lifeline for the besieged region.
