ISIS sleeper cells kill oil tanker driver in Syria’s Hasakah
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – A fuel tanker driver was killed on Wednesday in an attack by the Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells in the countryside between Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor in northeastern Syria.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said that four ISIS militants on motorcycles carried out the attack around 09:00 AM. They targeted a fuel tanker traveling between the towns of Shaddadi and Dashisha in southern Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor.
The attack resulted in the killing of the driver, identified as Ibrahim Shihab, and causing damage to the tanker. Self-defense forces engaged with the attackers, killing a member of the Self-Defense Forces (compulsory military service) affiliated with the SDF.
The SDF added that this attack and others stress the ongoing threat posed by ISIS cells, whose activities have intensified amid continued Turkish assaults on Northeast Syria. This underscores the need for sustained military operations to eliminate them.
Two days earlier, the SDF concluded a security operation around the Hawl Camp aimed at tracking ISIS cells.
ISIS later claimed responsibility for targeting a fuel tanker near the Kebina oil field close to Shaddadi.
