Trump, Putin hold first phone call after election win
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Washington Post reported on Sunday that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump held his first phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Nov. 7, following Trump’s recent election victory.
During the call, made from Trump’s resort in Florida, he urged Putin to avoid escalating the conflict in Ukraine and reminded him of Washington’s strong military presence in Europe.
Sources familiar with the call noted that both leaders discussed the importance of peace in Europe. Trump expressed interest in further talks to pursue a quick resolution to the Ukraine war, according to the Washington Post.
The Ukrainian government was informed about the call but did not object to the discussion between Trump and Putin.
Steven Cheung, Trump’s communications director, commented in an email that leaders are reaching out to him directly.
He added that President Trump achieved a historic, decisive victory, and global leaders recognize America’s upcoming resurgence on the world stage. This is why leaders are beginning to establish stronger connections with the 45th and 47th president, who embodies a commitment to global peace and stability.
