Ex-envoy Jeffrey warns against U.S. withdrawal from Syria

QAMSHLI, Syria (North Press) – Former U.S. Special Representative for Syria, James Jeffrey, warned on Friday against any U.S. withdrawal from Syria, saying that such a move would benefit America’s adversaries and harm its allies.

Western and Arab media outlets have been discussing the potential U.S. withdrawal from Syria after Trump’s return to the American presidency, recalling his past statements about bringing American soldiers home.

In a statement to Middle East Eye, Jeffrey said that “such a move could have serious consequences.”

He added that it would be a “serious mistake, as it would empower Iran and Assad, creating a vacuum that could disadvantage our various partners, including Turkey.”
