Israeli forces advance into southern Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Israeli forces advanced on Friday evening into Quneitra Governorate, southern Syria, annexing new areas into Israel, a local source told North Press.

The source said that the Israeli forces entered the village of Kodana in the southern countryside of Quneitra, advancing 500 meters into Syrian territory, accompanied by bulldozers and armored vehicles mounted with machine guns.

The source added that the incursion took place in full view of Syrian government forces stationed at the village of Tel al-Ahmar Gharbi. The guards around the village withdrew to the top of the village.

The local site of Ahrar Horan Gathering reported that Israeli machinery uprooted hundreds of olive trees and leveled some dirt mounds, raising suspicions that the incursion was aimed at exposing areas feared to be potential sites for tunnel digging by Hezbollah members.

Local sources also informed North Press that the Israeli forces expanded their borders by installing barbed wire fencing around the newly seized area.

Just two days earlier, the Israeli forces conducted a drone strike in the al-Alam Roundabout area of Quneitra, killing a member of the Syrian government forces and injuring another. Israel later confirmed the assassination of a Hezbollah leader in the region.
