Residents demand reactivation of blood bank in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Residents in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, called on Wednesday to reactivate the blood bank in the Hajin General Hospital.
Muhammad al-Jassem, a local resident from the city of Hajin, located 110 km east of Deir ez-Zor, said the closure of the blood bank has caused significant suffering for patients and those in need of urgent blood transfusions.
The blood bank at the Hajin Hospital, which is the primary healthcare facility in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, has been inactive for over six months.
Al-Jassem added that many emergency cases have been forced to travel to hospitals outside Deir ez-Zor, worsening their conditions and increasing risks during transit.
The blood bank previously played a critical role in supplying blood for Hajin Hospital and other medical centers in the eastern area.
The prolonged closure, however, has severely impacted the healthcare system, leaving patients without vital resources.
Mashari al-Hazum, Director of the Hospital, explained that the blood bank’s inactivity is due to a lack of funding and resources necessary for its operation.
He emphasized the importance of reactivating the facility as soon as possible to meet the urgent needs of patients.
