Turkish attacks deny students in Syria’s Hasakah of education
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – An educational official said on Monday that three thousand students are deprived of education due to the destruction of schools by Turkish attacks on the countryside of Hasakah in northeastern Syria.
Khedr al-Aliwi, co-chair of Schools Administration in the town of Tel Tamr in the northwest of Hasakah, explained that the Turkish attacks have resulted in significant destruction of schools, with 20 either completely or partially destroyed.
The 2024-2025 school year started on Sunday, with about 850,000 students enrolled, according to the Education Board of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
Al-Aliwi told North Press that the Turkish attacks have forced thousands of residents to flee their villages and homes, seeking shelter in schools located in other areas. This displacement has further disrupted the educational process.
He emphasized that the available schools cannot accommodate all students, particularly in regions affected by continuous Turkish attacks and random shelling.
The challenges include long distances and the difficulty families face in transporting their children to other schools for uninterrupted education, he added.
