Women in Idlib demonstrate against HTS
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Dozens of women in Idlib, northwestern Syria, staged a protest against the security policies and arrest campaigns carried out by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, once known as al-Nusra Front), demanding the release of detainees.
Local sources from the area told North Press that dozens of women participated in the demonstration in front of the so-called “Grievances Bureau” of the HTS, calling for the removal of the group’s leader and the release of prisoners.
The HTS deployed security patrols at the protest site to prevent the women from entering the “Grievances Bureau” building.
Since February, the HTS-held areas in northwestern Syria have witnessed protests demanding the removal of the group’s leader, Abu Mohammad al-Jolani. The number of protests has recently decreased due to security measures and the arrest of hundreds of protesters.
Recently, the HTS has established the “Grievances Bureau” to address the requests of the protesters and to process the requests of detainees’ families, but in practice, it has yet to provide any tangible results.
