AANES releases 35 terrorism-related prisoners in Syria’s Hasakah
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) released on Monday 35 terrorism-related prisoners in the city of Hasakah, Northeast Syria, continuing the implementation of the general amnesty it recently issued.
The release of the prisoners comes as part of the second batch after the AANES ratified a general amnesty law for crimes covered by Anti-Terrorism Law No. 7 of 2021 last July.
Around 35 terrorism-related prisoners were released, although the initial plan was to release 49, due to incomplete security procedures. Officials indicated that the remaining prisoners would be released later.
The AANES had released 1,500 prisoners in the first batch following the amnesty, responding to ongoing demands from local tribes and dignitaries after the tribal gathering in Hasakah on May 25.
Doran al-Hashimi, an official in the Relations Office of the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish), stated that the release of these prisoners, who are not stained with blood, was conducted with tribal guarantees and in agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the AANES, and the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC).
Al-Hashimi confirmed that more batches of detainees would be released in the coming days.
Regarding the guarantees for their release, al-Hashimi noted that they receive many inquiries about this issue. It is their duty, as security forces, to monitor these individuals even after their release to ensure their reintegration into the community.
