Turkish Defense Minister sees Assad’s normalization remarks positive
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler expressed on Saturday optimism about recent statements from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad about normalization between the two countries.
Guler considered recent statements made by al-Assad to be quite positive.
“President Erdogan had mentioned that meetings with Assad could be possible, and we are genuinely pleased that Assad seems to have understood and perceived this.”
Guler emphasized that he does not believe there are any major obstacles between Turkey and Syria.
“I don’t think there is an insurmountable problem between us. Once we resolve our issues, we can continue our normal activities as neighboring countries. “
On Aug 11, Guler told Reuters that Turkey and Syria may hold meetings at the ministerial level to improve relations, if suitable conditions are created.
