Turkish border guards kill civilian, injure 2 others in Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Turkish border guards killed on Thursday a civilian and injured two others while attempting to cross the border into Turkey from the countryside of Idlib, northwest Syria.
North Press correspondent reported, citing a local source from the village of Kherbet al-Joz in the western countryside of Idlib, that the Turkish border guards opened fire on a group of people while they were trying to cross to Turkey.
The gunfire resulted in the killing of the 19-year-old Marwan Haj Youssef, while two other young men, Muhammad al-Ayyash, 30, and Tarek Bayoun, 26, were injured.
The Turkish border guards also detained 11 other individuals who were with the three men; they were arrested and taken to a Turkish monitoring center located opposite the village of Kherbet al-Joz, north of the border wall.
Every day, dozens of Syrians attempt to cross into Turkey in search of a better life due to the economic hardship and war conditions in Syria.
