Asayish thwart cell planning to attack coalition in NE Syria
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) dismantled on Thursday a terrorist cell that was planning to target bases of the U.S.-led Global Coalition to Defeat Islamic State (ISIS) in the countryside of Hasakah, Northeast Syria.
The Asayish stated in a press release that they executed two precise security operations in the countryside of Hasakah and Qamishli targeting dangerous “terrorist” militants planning to carry out attacks on Coalition bases in the area.
They added that after midnight of Aug. 20, they identified the location of the group leader in the village of al-Mizaar in Hasakah, managed to arrest him, and seized homemade rockets along with launchers and warheads that he possessed.
The arrested leader confessed to the whereabouts of three associates. Following this lead, the Asayish conducted a raid in the village of al-Qasimiyah in the countryside of Chel Agha (al-Jawadiyah), where they apprehended them and seized weapons and ammunition in their possession, the statement read in Arabic.
