Jordan follows up on disappearance of two citizens in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates announced on Wednesday that it is actively investigating the disappearance of two of its nationals in Daraa Governorate, southern Syria.
According to a statement released by the ministry, two Jordanian individuals went missing three days ago while inside Syrian territory. The Directorate of Operations and Consular Affairs at the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said it is actively investigating the disappearance of two Jordanian citizens in Syria.
Sufyan Qudah, Spokesperson and Director of Operations and Consular Affairs at the ministry, stated that the ministry, in collaboration with Jordan’s embassy in Damascus, is working closely with the Syrian government to locate the missing citizens.
On Aug. 26, two Jordanian families reported losing contact with two drivers in Daraa Governorate, southern Syria.
The two drivers, identified as Maher Bashir Abdullah al-Sufi and Mahmoud Samih Ahmad Oweida, were last seen in the town of Khabab, north of Daraa. They were reportedly waiting to transport passengers back to Jordan when communication was lost.
Local sources have expressed concern over their safety, with suspicions arising that a group affiliated with the Lebanese Hezbollah, which exerts control over the region, may be involved. Despite the presence of Syrian government forces in the area, Hezbollah maintains a significant influence.
