SDC condemns Syrian government attempts to destabilize Deir ez-Zor
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) condemned on Saturday attempts by the Syrian government to destabilize the situation in Deir ez-Zor Governorate in eastern Syria.
The SDC emphasized the right of Deir ez-Zor’s residents to self-determination and commended the positive contributions of local tribes in fostering social cohesion and maintaining stability.
In addition, the council expressed its solidarity with the popular movement in Suwayda, southern Syria, and called for the realization of the protesters’ aspirations for freedom, dignity, and social justice.
As the protests against the Syrian government enter their second year, the situation remains dire, particularly with the government’s recent military reinforcements near Suwayda.
During the meeting in Hasakah, the council reaffirmed its support for the protesters’ demands.
The council also voiced its support for popular protests against the policies of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) in Idlib in northwestern Syria and against the Turkish-backed armed factions, known as the Syrian National Army (SNA), in other areas.
The SDC is seen as a reference and political umbrella for the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
