Syria’s Qamishli residents condemn government massacre in Deir ez-Zor

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Residents of the city of Qamishli in Northeast Syria staged a protest on Saturday against recent offensives by Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militias in Deir ez-Zor, which resulted in the killing of 11 civilians.

The protesters carried pictures of the victims from Deir ez-Zor, along with banners demanding an end to the assaults and massacres being committed against civilians in the region.

They strongly condemned the targeting of civilians by government forces and Iranian-backed militias, expressing their solidarity with the families of the victims from the town of al-Dahla in the east of Deir ez-Zor.

On Friday, the government forces shelled the town of al-Dahla and the village of Jadeed Bakkarah, east of Deir ez-Zor, and killed 11 civilians and injured six others, the SDF Media Center said.

On Aug. 7, militants of Syrian government-backed and Iranian-backed militants infiltrated villages and towns in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and launched a ground attack against areas on the eastern banks of the Euphrates River, east of Deir ez-Zor.
