Vital hospital department in Deir ez-Zor closed due to reduced support
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A medical official in the Hajin Hospital in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria said on Monday that reduced support has resulted in the closure of vital departments.
Mashari al-Hazum, Director of the Hajin Hospital, told North Press that the hematology department has been temporarily closed due to the cessation of support provided by the France-based Mehad Organization.
Hajin Hospital in the only hospital in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor that offers its medical services in general and the children’s and women’s department in particular, free of charge, in addition to providing medicines and treatment.
The department, which is crucial in the hospital, offered free treatment of thalassemia for the past two years, saving the lives of hundreds of children.
He stressed that the thalassemia department and the blood bank are vital and important departments that serve the residents of Deir ez-Zor, as there is no other center for children with thalassemia except in the city of Raqqa.
Al-Hazum pointed out that the hospital is coordinating with the Health Committee of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and international organizations to reopen vital departments to save sick children.
