Russia repatriates 20 ISIS-related children from Northeast Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Russia announced on Sunday it repatriated 20 children of the families of the Islamic State group (ISIS) from Northeast Syria.
The press service of Children’s Ombudsman in Russia reported that 20 Russian children who were in refugee camps in Northeast Syria were repatriated with the help of Maria Lvova-Belova, Children’s Rights Commissioner for the President of Russia.
The press service said the children were repatriated on a plane of the Russian forces.
Lvova-Belova said they managed to repatriated 20 children – 13 boys and 7 girls – aged between 5 and 15 years old.
The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) has not commented on the incident yet.
The children will be subjected to medical check and social rehabilitation in a center in Moscow before meeting with their relatives and live under their guardianship.
Around 4,500 Russian citizens joined the ISIS in Syria and Iraq. Most survivors are now being in Roj and Hawl camps that are run by the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish).
