Germany grants naturalization to 75,500 Syrians in 2023
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – German Federal Statistical Office said on Tuesday it granted naturalization to 75,500 Syrians in 2023, marking the largest single group, accounting for 38 percent of the total.
“Last year saw the naturalization of 75,500 people from Syria, making it the largest single group, accounting for 38 percent of the total,” the Federal Statistical Office said.
It added that the percentage marked a 56 percent increase compared with 2022.
The Statistical Office pointed out that it granted German citizenship to about 200,100 people in 2023, with an increase of about 31,000, or 19 percent, compared with 2022.
People are generally required to have lived in Germany for at least eight years, although this requirement did not apply to spouses and children.
The period could be reduced to six years for individuals who demonstrated “special integration accomplishments” such as very good language proficiency, professional achievements, or civic engagement, according to the Office.
