Landmine blast kills child, injures another in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A landmine exploded on Saturday in a village in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, killing a chilled and injuring another.

A local source from the village of Tabiyah, east of Deir ez-Zor, said that a landmine from war remnants exploded on a group of children while they were herding sheep on the outskirt of the village, which is under the control of Syrian government forces.

The source added that the explosion killed the 11-year-old child, Adnan Salama, and injured the 9-year-old child, Fawaz Salam, who was taken to a hospital in Damascus.

The source further added that the area of the scene is prohibited due to frequent cases of explosions of war remnants.

Syria is considered the first globally in terms of the number of people killed in landmines, as the landmines planted by conflicting parties in Syria resulted in the killing of thousands of people.

On April 25, four people were injured in an explosion caused by a landmine of war remnants also in Deir ez-Zor.
