SDF foils escape attempt of Cubs of Caliphate militants from Hawl Camp
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) successfully foiled on Tuesday an escape attempt by two militants of the so-called Cubs of the Caliphate, an affiliate of the Islamic State (ISIS), from Hawl Camp in northeast Syria.
The SDF media center said in a statement that the two militants were hiding within the camp.
Hawl Camp is home to approximately 55,000 individuals, comprising 2,423 families with connections to ISIS militants originating from around 60 countries.
The camp has been witnessing ongoing escape attempts by women affiliated with ISIS, which often coincide with events unfolding in northern Syria, such as the Turkish escalation, according to a previous statement by an administrator in the camp.
The two militants are Indonesian and “one Turkestani national- were captured along with a Syrian national involved in facilitating the attempted escape,” according to the statement.
The Syrian smuggler hails from Deir ez-Zor Governorate, east Syria, the statement read.
