SDF says Iran-backed militias infiltrated into areas in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Sunday the killing of a number of soldiers of the Syrian government forces during an infiltration attempt to their areas in the eastern side of the Euphrates River.

In a statement, the SDF said that Hajin Military Council, one of its military formations, captured two bodies of the government forces and seized several arms.

Earlier on Sunday, the Hajin Military Council said its forces thwarted an attempt of infiltration by a group of militants affiliated with militias related to the Syrian government forces and Iran.

The SDF added that fighters of the Hajin Council killed a number of militants of the National Defense Forces (NDF), a militia affiliated with the government forces, during the clashes that erupted following the infiltration attempt.

The SDF shared images showing their capturing of the two bodies with documents carried by one of the killed. Among the documents was a security card bearing the logo of the Sons of Jazira Euphrates Movement.

The Sons of Jazira and Euphrates Movement are engaged in kinetic military and paramilitary actions in eastern Syria. The militia mainly fights the SDF and aims at reinforcing Arab tribal power.

Also, among the documents that were found with one of the killed was a notice confirmed that the militant received ammunition and weapon belonged to al-Karbalaei Forces and approved by the head of the security committee in Deir ez-Zor. This affirms a cooperation between Damascus and Tehran to fight the SDF.

Al-Karbalaei Forces is a group affiliated with Iran that was founded in 2019 to fight the American forces in Syria.
