Iraqi PM discusses with Turkish defense minister security in Iraq, Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, discussed on Tuesday with Turkish Defense Minister, Yasar Guler, the preservation of security in Iraq and its neighboring country, Syria.

They stated that they have taken several measures along the border between Iraq and Turkey.

Guler arrived to Baghdad as part of a delegation accompanied by the Chief of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces, Metin Gurak, and were received by the Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid.

A statement by the Prime Minister’s media office emphasized Iraq’s commitment to constitutional principles, which include preventing the use of Iraqi territory to attack neighboring countries and rejecting any infringement on Iraq’s sovereignty or any measures to settle scores on its territory.

Al-Sudani also stressed the significance of security in Syria, as it is “interconnected” with the national security of Iraq and Turkey.

Another statement issued by the Iraqi presidency said that President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid conveyed to the Turkish Defense Minister the importance of respecting Iraq’s sovereignty and halting military attacks on Iraqi territories.

He called for resolving security issues between the two countries through mutual cooperation, consultation, and coordination.

Guler, in turn, expressed his country’s “support for the security, stability and sovereignty of Iraq and its aspiration to strengthen relations of cooperation and joint coordination in various fields in a way that achieves the mutual interests of the two friendly peoples,” stated the Iraqi presidency.
