Kirby says U.S. does not seek war with Iran
DAMSCUS, Syria (North Press) – Washington is not seeking a war with Iran and will respond in an appropriate manner to the attack that targeted an American military base in Jordan, U.S. National Security Council Spokesman John Kirby said on Monday.
In an interview with CBS network, Kirby said, “The president has added force capability to the Middle East, and he will make the decision as commander-in-chief as appropriate to make sure we can continue to defend ourselves.”
Kirby added that Washington is not seeking a war with Iran and does not want a broader conflict in the Middle East.
On Sunday, three U.S. service members were killed and 34 others were injured in a one-way drone attack that hit an American base in northeast Jordan, near the Syria border, said the U.S. Central Command in press release.
U.S. President Joe Biden said on Sunday in a statement released by the White House, “We will carry on their commitment to fight terrorism. And have no doubt – we will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner of our choosing.”
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a coalition of Iran-backed militias, claimed responsibility for the attack.
