Iran-backed group claims attack on U.S. base in western Iraq
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed on Friday responsibility for a new attack a day earlier on Ain al-Assad Airbase of the U.S.-led Coalition in Anbar Governorate, western Iraq, using drones.
On Jan. 23, the U.S. Department of Defense announced that, since the start of the war in Gaza in October 2023, 83 personnel were injured in attacks carried out by Iranian-backed militias on American bases in Syria and Iraq.
The pro-Iran group said in a statement published on its affiliated accounts, “Resistance fighters attacked the occupied Ain al-Assad base in western Iraq using drones yesterday evening.”
On Thursday, the Islamic Resistance announced the targeting of a U.S. base near the Erbil International Airport in northern Iraq.
On the same day, the Counter-Terrorism Service in the Kurdistan Region in Iraq announced that the air defenses had shot down an explosive-laden drone targeting U.S. forces at a base near Erbil International Airport.
The statement affirmed that they will continue to target sites of the U.S.-led Coalition in Iraq and Syria in support of Gaza.
