AANES announces gradual operation of water stations in Syria’s Qamishli
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – An official in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said on Tuesday that they resumed pumping water to the countryside of Qamishli, northeastern Syria after its suspension due to recent Turkish airstrikes on power stations in the region.
Ibrahim Hassan, officer in the AANES Water Directorate in the town of Amuda in the west of Qamishli, told North Press that nine out of 16 wells are currently in operation.
Hassan added that pumping water will gradually resume starting on Tuesday.
An AANES official stated on Monday that they would use electric generators to provide electricity for the stations to operate and pump water. He added that they face difficulties in doing so due to the shortage of fuel after Turkish airstrikes targeted oil facilities and refineries.
Turkish airstrikes caused severe damage in power stations in northeastern Syria which resulted in outage of electricity needed for the operation of water stations.
